The Cache map will not return to CSGO’s competitive scene for nearly another month. To showcase some of the new additions with the upcoming revamp, the Cache map designer Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling has posted a few previews. The reworked version started development in March. The teasers seem to be drawing positive feedback so far.
CSGO Cache revamp
Through his newly added Twitter header, fans can see one of the previews that has been made available. The art in the image shows stained class, inspired by a Ukrainian cafe named Cafe Pripyat that was located near Chernobyl. It was a popular storefront for many of the residents nearby until the Chernobyl power plant nuclear disaster happened in 1986.
The current description for the de_cache map is, “Surgical precision and tactical prowess are crucial to securing a hidden weapons cache beneath Chernobyl.” This preview image could mean more Chernobyl landmarks are being added to the Cache map background.
Some of the other major map changes include a curved wall next to the truck. This is because the old version of Cache gave the terrorist side more cover to work with. With the update, the counter-terrorists will have more holding power to make it balanced.

After posting a screenshot of the bird’s-eye view design and an Apple emoji, fans speculated how it could tie into the release date. Shortly after, FMPONE posted a video. “We’re pretty much done. Little announcement: we’re going to be showing off the project for the very first time at ESL One: New York,” says Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling on the release date. “There’s going to be a show match before the Grand Finals.”
This year’s ESL One: New York esports event will take place at the Barclays Center on Sept. 29. Along with the show match, attendees can test the map and meet content creators at the ESEA booth. Original map creator Sal “Volcano” Garozzo and texture artist FMPONE will also be at the booth to answer questions from fans. The attendees will then get the official patch notes and hear firsthand analysis from experts at the desk.
